Vets in Playa Blanca

We recently acquired a new puppy – Pepper, having had Guido – our existing dog for over three years.

When we originally got Guido… Lynne (who needs no introduction to most ex-pats on the island) convinced us of the benefits of castration… which of course we ensured was done for Guido when he was a pup.

Yesterday was Peppers ‘big day’ and he’s now wandering around – as happy as a male can be having had his testicles removed – with a big cone on his head for a couple of days. Guido also had his injections brought up to date the day before.

For this I took them into the new(ish) vets, Bari,  in Playa Blanca and I have to say the vet there – Yaira – was fantastic. A really nice lady, and she had a fantastic rapport with both dogs. Very gentle with the animals and the kind of person who makes you feel they are in safe hands.

30 minutes later…

How ironic that in writing this – at this very point – Elle noticed the stitches had popped and between this and the next paragraph I’ve just had to dash him down to get fixed again. Stitches can pop under the pressure of an animal’s enthusiastic investigations.

Again I say – don’t be afraid to use Spanish businesses, it never ceases to amaze me how many English speakers on the island (I guess the same applies to other European languages) tend to stay in their linguistic comfort zone.

If your have a dog or cat (this applies even more so to cats), are moving to Lanzarote with, or are planning to get one when you arrive – the responsible thing to do is have them neutered.

Lanzarote has far to many stray and mistreated animal as it is – why even risk adding to the problem!

Pepper is now back and all fixed up!

Bari can be found at Calle el Correillo, Local 4 in Playa Blanca (on the same side of the road as the Post Office)
