Using Lanzarote forums to get help
Get into those Lanzarote forums, and get chatting to people. We were online, building relationships, for months before we arrived. Lanzarote Island was especially useful for us, and led to us meeting Angela from Lanzarote Lates, who was able to find us somewhere to live too. Fans and residents of the Island, such as CeltyGirl, Madstock, Josie, Lynne from SARA and Will2 were able to tell us where were good places to eat, how to get around the island, and where the best places to shop were. When we first arrived, we were able to meet up with “Biffa”, who had moved over just a couple of months before us, and who had oodles of tips to make our transition easier. We’ve now met many, many people from the forums, and consider many of them good friends.
The Gazette’s Resident’s Corner too, continues to be a source of useful information – oh, and entertainment too! There’s always some spat between people or companies on any forum… but hey, it makes life a bit more colourful… albeit in a morbid fascination kind of way.
One of the busiest Lanzarote forums now though… is one that we set up in February 2007. It is full of good advice, plenty of banter, and some really friendly people – see you in our Lanzarote forum soon! www.canarynightlife.net/forum
Do remember though, that not everyone is who they would appear to be. The internet can be as anonymous as people want it to be… and we’ve often seen character assassination across message boards. Don’t take it too seriously, and you’ll be fine.
Soon you will have a network of people, all wanting to share their experiences with you… give you their advice… help you make that move… whilst reminding you that they’re insanely jealous. Be smug about it! We are! But always tongue-in-cheek of course.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Even the simplest of questions may be worrying you – but a quick post in a forum, or an email to a friendly ear can take that worry away. We regularly receive emails from people planning for the move, and we insist that they just send over whatever questions they have. If it’s important to you… then it may be important to somebody else too – and so you’re then helping someone else who may be too shy to ask.
We’ll see you in there! My username is “Elle1971″, and Alan is simply “Alan”

Hola everybody. My Wife & I will be coming to Lanzarote hopefully in September for a long overdue holiday (not had one for over 4 years ) with a view to permanent relocation. One thing I’m finding hard to track down is information about cancer care ie.follow up check ups following surgery.I was successfully (hooray ) treated last year for Testicular cancer and am now at the stage of just needing follow up appointments plus occasional Blood tests, X-rays and CT scans.Obviously I could always pop back to the UK every 3-6 months but it would be much more convenient and probably a lot cheaper to keep it in the Canaries.Any information would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Best Wishes
Alf.
Great site by the way and how did the the Help For Heroes event go?
Hey there Alf. Glad that you’ve turned a corner with your cancer.
The good news is that Spain’s healthcare is excellent when it comes to curative medicine – so no problems there. However… I do know that a friend had to go to Gran Canaria for certain parts of his treatment – all travel expenses and accommodation for him was paid by the state. Hope that helps?
Help For Heroes went really well – and they raised lots of money, which is fantastic!
If you fancy meeting up for a natter (and no, we’re not trying to sell you anything) when you’re over in September… then give us a shout. I can’t do between 15th and 22nd of September – but apart from that am around.
Elle xx
Hi there Elle, thanks for the kind words and rapid response, it’s nice to know there are some nice people out there without an ulterior motive, and yes we would be love to meet up for a natter probably late September early October.
Alf xx
You are more than welcome Alf!
Yes… just drop me a line to info@lanzaroterelocation.co.uk nearer the time and we’ll organise a natter over a glass of something suitably tasty and refreshing.
