Things to do in Lanzarote

Where do you take the family for a day out in Lanzarote?

We have chosen to restrict our visits to the tourist attractions to when we have guests over to stay. That way, it is always new for us too. So here’s just a few of the things available for you, whether you live here, or are visiting on holiday.

Guinate Tropical Park
This little gem was a real eyeopener for us. We had expected a few birds, a variety of flora, and scenic surroundings. What we got, however, was much much more! There is a wide selection of animals there, such as primates, parrots, otters (I got to hold an otter’s paw – which kept me smiling for days afterwards!), and many other varieties. The rumboldt penguins have now arrived, and have their own enclosure with a viewing panel so you can see them milling about in the water.

Rancho Texas
No holiday would be complete without a visit to Rancho Texas. With a selection of animals, in beautiful surroundings, including the sealions, brids of prey, and the stunning tigers… there is plenty to see, and it’ll keep the kids (of all ages) smiling! Rancho Texas also plays host to themed evenings, such as their famous Wild West shows. We guarantee you won’t be able to avoid foot-tapping – and joining in all the fun and frolics.

Timanfaya National Park
You can’t come all the way to Lanzarote, without taking a trip into the Timafaya National Park.  From the journey up there, surrounded by the blacks, browns, reds, and greens of the craters, you will already be anticipating the stunning scenery to follow. You can take a camel trip, and use the coach for a tour around the tracks. Don’t miss the presentation at the top of the reserve, where they demonstrate the heat coming from the volcano. You can also sample a meal, where the kitchens are heated by the natural heat coming from below. Don’t wear plastic shoes or flip flops – they’ll melt. If you have the entrance to the National Park on your left, then keep driving… and further along there is a free museum with lots of information about volcanoes, and the other wonders of nature on the Island.

Whale and Dolphin Museum
Based in Puerto Calero, this is an insight into the world of – yes you’ve guessed it – whales and dolphins. An unforgettable education for all the family. There are discounts for families too. 2 adults and 2 kids, for example, would pay just €22.50 total. Not bad at all! There are life sized reproductions, collections of skeletons, photographs, sounds, tours… and more.

Obviously this is just the tip of the iceberg. Lanzarote has so much to offer… that we could have dedicated a whole website just to this section!

Happy touring!
