Tax Allowances in Lanzarote – 2010
Unlike in the United Kingdom, where the taxman sets your tax allowance in advance…. tax in Lanzarote is paid in full as the year goes on – and then any additional allowances or overpayments are dished out at the end of the tax year. This means that a high percentage of tax payers receive a rebate after the tax year. So, you lucky taxpayers… you should be receiving anything you are entitled to, in the next few weeks. All payments should have been sorted by the end of June – so speak to your Asesoria if in doubt.
Here is a list of the current tax allowances in 2010
General Allowances
Standard: €5151
Age: 65+ = €6069 euro. €75+ = €6273
Disability = €2316 – €7038 depending on severity
Child allowances
First child = €1836
Second child = €2040
Third child= €3672
Each further child = €4182
Elderly relative living with family whose income is less than 8,000 euro pa:
65+ = €918
75+ = €1122
Maternity allowance (Reduccion por cuidado de hijos)
Child under three years old = €2244 per child
Earnings related Personal Allowance (for employees)
Earnings less than €9180 = €4080
€9,180 to €13260 = €4080 – 35% x (Earnings – €9,180)
€13,260 + = €2652 euro

Hi Sue. Do you have an Asesoria that sorts out your tax? If so, then they can get it for you (ours did).
If not – then is it directions to the office that you’re after?

Hi, I wonder if yo can advise me where in Arrecife I go to get a new Social Security number. Everyone I asked pointed me in different directions and now I have walked around for 2 hours and still dont now where to go
Many thanks
Sue
Hi there Jay. You don’t get child benefit in the same way as you would in the UK or Ireland here… although there is a payment of a very small amount (I think €25 per kiddie per month) that is payable twice a year. This is only paid however, if you are working, paying into the state system… and earning less than €10k per year (I also have heard it’s only for kids under 3 – but I’m unsure about that). You can claim it if you are working for a UK company whilst living here… but I don’t know if that works the same with Ireland I’m afraid. I know that some mothers have been able to claim benefit from Britain because their kids’ Dad still is a taxpayer in Britain. You would need to check with your local office in Ireland as to whether that applies there also.
This link may help too! http://www.seg-social.es/Internet_6/Trabajadores/PrestacionesPension10935/Prestacionesfamilia10967/index.htm Clcik the British flag at the top if that still takes you to a Spanish page.

hi im looking into moving to pdc in lanzarote from ireland im a single mum of 4 girls my mum is moving with me so we can share childminding while each one works, is there such thing as child benefits,, and is it best to go over with return ticket and try set up or to set up before we leave ireland???
Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis, Rachael.
A real toughie this one, as there doesn’t seem to be a hard and fast rule..
Those kinds of benefits are contribution based – and so at first glance it would seem that you’re not entitled to them. However, we are not legal advisors… and I would advise you to go to the Social Security office in Arrecife as a first move. Do take a Spanish speaker with you.
The DWP in the UK may also be able to advise you of your rights. Here are a couple of links for you to have a look at.

However, be warned that applying for this is not simple… and certainly not guaranteed. But at least it gives you somewhere to start.
The very best of luck hon.
