Lanzarote Relocation

Okay, we’ve had our rants about Telefonica in the past, now, amazingly, we have something positive to say!

Having moved in July we waited until yesterday to get a phone line in. As with so many new developments we didn’t exist! A real case of the Little Britain style ‘computer says no’… Last weekend we stumbled on the fact that our address had appeared on the Telefonica website. So got very excited thinking we could be placing an order again this week.

No need. On Monday there was an engineer at our neighbours. And on Tuesday he came to us. Unfortunately the developers had omited to put an actual line into our house so we need the electricians to visit first. They were meant to come Wednesday – they didn’t, the enginneer came back and was obviously unable to connect us. They came Thurday and put in the cable, the engineer came back and hey presto – we are now the proud owners of a telephone line and ADSL.

You have to live here to understand just how exciting an event that can be sometimes…

We can’t speak highly enough of the engineer – Santos – great guy. He was fluent in English, put up with being messed around, he waited half an hour for us to get back from Arrecife to sign off the paperwork – and because he wanted to explain why one of our phone points wasn’t working.

We ex-pats often moan about the level of service here – Santos is the exception that proves the rule. How many BT engineers for instance would give you their mobile number after an installation “in case you have any problems”.
