Opticians in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

opticians in playa blanca lanzaroteHaving had one of the dogs very kindly chew up my specs, I recently went to get them replaced at Faroptica, one of the opticians in Playa Blanca. The service was fantastic, with a really nice receptionist who spoke excellent English, and the optician was everything you’d expect – bit of a language barrier in the odd moment, but we understood each other perfectly well.

The eye test is free – but, the real shocker came when it came to the price of the replacement glasses – €220, just for the lenses! Now, much as I prefer to spend our money here in the local economy, it’s hard to justify that expense when Specsavers are always running some kind of two for one deal for £99 (or similar) back in the UK.

Upon asking whether the prescription was valid in the UK, I was assured that it is valid across Europe. To take away the prescription costs €25 so I went for this option. It was clear from the receptionist that it was not the first time she’d seen such amazement at the price.

So, currently winging it’s way to the UK is a package containing my ‘chewed’ specs and my Spanish prescription after I had my Dad do a bit of research at Specsavers. They say they can do the prescription for me (as long as I have been a previous customer and they can find the records), but were concerned about not being able to fit them for me – hence the mangled originals being sent with the prescription). Though if they are slightly out, I’d be more than happy to get the local opticians to make any adjustments – as in the past the repairs they have done have been excellent, and very well priced.

It’s a hassle, and like I say, I’d rather buy in Lanzarote if possible – but the prices are horrendous!
