Opening a bank account in Lanzarote
Opening a bank account in Lanzarote is nice and easy, and only took us around fifteen minutes. We chose to trust our funds with Solbank and were immediately impressed with the rates, the customer service, and the fact that everyone in the branch seemed to be fluent in English - which reassured us greatly. They also offer a high interest sterling account, which may be beneficial to you. Transferring money to and from Lanzarote has proved extremely painless, and the charges are very low. They also provide internet banking.
You will need to take your passport, and if you have one… your NIE number. You can still open an account without a NIE but you won’t be able to apply for a mortgage here without it, or without having put the application in process.
And it’s really that simple! After that, just enjoy the service your bank provides - everything is very personal - and your Bank manager will often greet you by name once he/she has got to know you a little.
PS: If you do decide to bank with Solbank in Playa Blanca, ask for Alberto and tell him we sent you. We, and you, will get a free bottle of wine as they run a referral scheme…

I’m planning on moving to Lanzarote in a few years. In the meantime I would like to open a bank account with a bank in Lanzarote for savings purposes. I am having another holiday there in September and would like to open an account while I am there. What will I require to do this?

Hi Steve. You can easily open a savings account in September. Just take your passport with you. I’m not sure if all banks do a tourist account… but SolBank definitely do. Have a look on their website at http://www.solbank.com and click “English” on the top menu, and you should be able to find out there… or get in contact with them.
Good luck - and let us know how you get on!
