NIE application form – How to fill it in.

Please note that as of 2009, the NIE application forms part of your Residencia application, so is no longer available on its own. This article is for historical reference only.

So you’ve decided you’re going to sort out your NIE application form yourself. Ok… great… but all that Spanish writing can be very daunting if you are not fluent in the language. So here’s a helpful guide to how to fill in this NIE Application Form, and what each field means.

DATOS PERSONALES – PERSONAL DETAILS
1er Apellido     Surname
2er Apellido     2nd Surname
Nombre     Forename
Fecha de Nacimiento     Date of Birth (Format DD/MM/YYYY)
Lugar de nacimiento     Place of birth
Sexo     Gender (“H” for Male Hombre and “M” for Female Mujer)
Estado Civil:     Status (S = single. C = married. V = widow. D = divorced)
País de nacimiento     Your country of birth
País de nacionalidad     Your nationality
Nombre del Padre     Father’s name
Nombre de la Madre     Mother’s name
Domicilio en España     Street address in Spain
Localidad     Town
CP     Postal Code
Provincia     Province

Sign the form at the bottom, under ‘firma de solicitante’.

Complete the form and take it to the National Police station, along with a photocopy. You also need to provide your original passport as well as a photocopy.

You will then be asked to return when your number is ready to collect.
