New Concert Hall coming to Lanzarote
A Danish company has won an international competition to build a brand new concert hall / congress centre in Arrecife. Henning Larsen Architects will be working in collaboration with Spanish architect Carlos Morales.
Lanzarote’s new 15,000 m2 concert and congress hall Palacio de Congresos will be situated at the promenade in Lanzarote’s capital. The building is inspired by the island’s stunning volcanic landscape.
“The building will be a cultural fixed point on Lanzarote. It has all the atmosphere of the island. You can feel Lanzarote’s magnificent scenery, the volcanoes, the lava, the sea and the sky. The building is created by and for this place,” explains design director Louis Becker from Henning Larsen Architects.
Previously Henning Larsen Architects designed Operaen in Copenhagen, Uppsala Konsert & Kongress and Iceland’s new national concert hall which is currently in project at the waterfront in Reykjavik. They are also currently designing Ireland’s new national concert hall in Dublin.
The build is expected to start during 2009 with completion planned for2013.
