Lanzarote North Tour
Start this tour fairly early on a Sunday morning, as this will take up most of your day.
Come out of Playa Blanca, and follow the signs to Yaiza. Watch the roundabouts at Yaiza, as the give way points can be a little confusing. But follow signs from there to Arrecife.
You’ll shortly come across the next village, which is Uga. Just past Uga, is a large roundabout, which will point left to La Geria and Teguise. Take that turning.
La Geria is the main vineyard district in Lanzarote, and has some truly dramatic scenery. Don’t forget your camera! Follow the signs through to Teguise.
As you come out onto an open stretch of road, after all the little villages, then you can either turn left to Famara (my favourite beach on the Island) or go straight on and catch the biggest market on the Island in Teguise village itself. Plenty of great shopping to be had here. From dodgy sunglasses to art galleries, and from cheese and wine stalls to leather goods. And it’s probably also worth grabbing a bite to eat at this point. There are a number of tapas bars in the village, and the main square has a few foodie vans too.
Famara is definitely worth a day in it’s own right, and it is here that you will see windsurfers galore. there are a number of excellent little eateries here, especially right on the beachfront.
Come out the other side of Teguise, and follow the signs to Haria. It takes you on a gorgeous winding road through Los Valles, past one of Lanzarote’s wind farms, and with amazing views over the valley of Haria. This drive is not for the fainthearted - but so worth it for the views you get. As you get down the mountain, you’ll come into Haria, which is another one of our favourite places. Go through Haria, and follow the signs for Guinate Tropical Park. Spend 2 or 3 hours in Guinate, and then instead of turning left out of the car park… turn right… for what we think are the best views over to Graciosa.
Come out of there… head back to Haria, and follow signs for Arrecife. As soon as you spot a sign for Orzola though - grab it… and go all the way to the northern tip of the Island. We love the little cottages all around the port there. There’s plenty of fish restaurants too. get eating!
