Living in Lanzarote
After you have been living in Lanzarote for some time, you get used to your day to day business, the hum drum of work, the dropping the kids to school… and life settles into its normal routine. It is then that we can become sidetracked, and it becomes easy to forget what a beautiful and surprising island Lanzarote is.
We have found this occasionally ourselves… and so we make sure that we get out and about as often as we can, to remind ourselves of the little gems so abundant on the island.
Playa Blanca - yes, we’re biased because we live here… but that walk along the promenade from the Marina towards the Lighthouse never fails to make us smile. Looking across the bay to the white house peeking out from between the palm trees and the immaculately kept gardens reminds us why we moved here. It’s simply breathtaking. The view from Femes, whether night or day, is one that never disappoints.
Puerto del Carmen - sitting in the Old Town, overlooking the harbour, and simply watching the world go by is always a pleasure. Dinner at Emma’s Cantina, or any of the many superb fish restaurants is a real tonic for the spirit. the beach walk along Matagorda.. dipping your toes into the pools that form on the beach - just lovely!
Costa Teguise - I had lived in Lanzarote for almost a year before I discovered the little cove tucked away at the end of Avda Jablillo. One of my favourite views! The square, always bustling, and with all those smells and sounds to tantalise the senses. Friends of ours have a place that backs onto the beach just by the King’s Residence. Fantastic views across the water - and a fabulous beach for fishing.
Famara - my favourite beach on the island. Hot totty riding the waves, or frolicking in the sand… the picturesque village… and as for that cliff view, well!
Mirador de Guinate - whenever we are in the north of Lanzarote, we always pop to this viewpoint to gaze across at La Graciosa. In my opinion, it’s one of the best views anywhere.
The road from Teguise village to Haria. This winding road that takes you over the mountains, past Las Valles, and down the other dizzy side to Haria is one of Alan’s favourite routes. he loves the driving - I love the views!
Of course we all have our favourite parts of Lanzarote… and the few I have mentioned are just my personal choices (I could actually have typed for the rest of the day). So next time you’re having a bad day… or perhaps things are getting a little on top of you… just go for a walk… sit on the seafront, or halfway up a mountain. take a breath… and remind yourself why you moved here.
Chicken soup for the soul!
