Lanzarote Holiday Bookings Take Off in January

Despite the decline of sterling against the euro and the gloomy economic outlook interest in European sunshine holidays remains buoyant in the UK.  According to figures just released by the leading island travel portal Lanzarote Guidebook.  Which reveal an increase in enquiries for holiday accommodation on the small Canary Island of just over 14% during the course of last month.Lanzarote has long been a hot favourite with British tourists.  Who account for well over 50% of the 1.5 million non-Spanish nationals who visit the Island of Fire each year.  Attracted by Lanzarote´s clement year round climate, breathtaking beaches and unique volcanic scenery.

During the course of January – traditionally one of the busiest months of the year for holiday bookings – the Lanzarote Guidebook website fielded a total of 639 enquiries for apartment and villa accommodation on the island.  A figure which has increased by 14.2% versus January 2008.

The Lanzarote Guidebook figures are further supported by the recent announcement from low cost operators Monarch airlines that flight bookings to the island also increased by 13% during January 2009.  With Lanzarote topping their league table of hot winter sun destinations along with the fellow Canary Island of Tenerife.

The bulk of British tourists planning a holiday in Lanzarote were seeking villa accommodation on the island.  With villa enquires outweighing those for apartments by a ratio of almost 4:1.

Playa Blanca, the newest resort on the island, emerged as the most popular overall destination for those seeking villa or apartment accommodation.  Accounting 41% of all enquiries.  And also topped the charts for villa accommodation – providing the focus of 42.7% of all searches.

Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote´s largest holiday destination, was the most popular spot for anyone planning to rent an apartment on the island.  Attracting 56.6% of all enquiries.  Reflecting the fact that the resort has the highest concentration of apartment complexes of any location on the island.
