Kampai Restaurant. Playa Blanca

Kampai Restaurant, Princesa Yaiza, PLaya Blanca, LanzaroteSome of you will know that we say the best meal we’ve ever had in Lanzarote is at the Kampai Japanese restaurant in the Princesa Yaiza Hotel in Playa Blanca. Well… we currently have a friend over at the weekend who was with us the last time we ate there. He wanted to go again so we did!

Absolute perfection once again!!

We like to mix and match so that our group gets to taste a bit of everything – so we all ordered different dishes off the menu.

Starters:
Me: Mixed sushi,
Mike: Prawn dumplings
Alan: King prawns in a light batter.
Everything was full of flavour… juicy and succulent. The King Prawns were huge!!! The mixed sushi came with pink pickled ginger too – fantastic flavours!!

Main Courses:
Me: Duck Liver
Mike: Steak
Alan: Scallops
The steak was tender and full of flavour… the scallops were moist and extremely juicy… but the star of the show was most definitely the duck liver! OH MY GOD!!!! They literally dissolved on the tongue – and there was a good quantity too, so we weren’t left wanting.

We had fried rice and noodles as side dishes. Again, these were excellent.

Our chef was the height of entertainment… with plenty of utensil juggling… and food being thrown about too – supposedly into our waiting mouths – but only one person around the station managed to get one (an Irish chap who was there with his family).

The restaurant was exptremely busy last night – with every seat taken. As we left, the seats were already filling again. However, the service did not suffer for it for one second. The staff and chefs know their limits on client numbers – and stick to it.

I know I keep using strong descriptive phrases with regards to this place – but it really is something special! We didn’t have high expectations when we got there last night… as so often a meal isn’t quite as perfect when you go for a second time. We didn’t think it was possible… but the second visit was even better than the first one. Marks out of ten? 1000!!!!

After our meal we popped upstairs to the Piano bar and chatted to the barman for a while. He was a really nice Spanish lad who had moved to the island 20 years ago from Lyon. He chatted away and didn’t laugh at our poor Spanish (although we did all laugh when he said mine was good for a holidaymaker. His face was a picture when we said we lived here – ahem). A couple more drinks out on the terrace with great company and conversation, and our evening was complete.

A fantastic night with fantastic food, wine and company.

To view the menu – go to THIS LINK
It’s a PDF so will take a little time to load. The menu is the same – but the prices of the two set meals have gone up to €48 each instead of what is marked.

Everything else looks current to me.
