Fire Guts Chinese Restaurant in Playa Blanca

Punta Limones Commercial Centre in Playa Blanca was a hive of activity today and teeming with firemen and onlookers, as the “Restaurante Chino” was completely gutted by fire. This was the Chinese restaurant on the ground floor, to the right of The Irish Anvil.

Thankfully nobody was hurt – and the fire crew cordoned off the area to ensure that it didn’t spread. Today’s hot winds could have easily spread the fire much further – but fortunately the wind direction ensured this didn’t happen.

Alan grabbed a couple of photos on his mobile to show the damage after the event.

  • Hi Vernon. Don’t worry. Yes there was damage to one of the walls (I spoke to Aoife the same day) but you’ll still be able to join them when over on your holidays! They’re open and trading again.

  • Vernon:

Hows the Anvil has it been damaged as someone we know said friends of theirs were there at the time of the fire and the anvil was also closed down due to fire damage,as we are due to come over (sept 16th) would like to know if they are or will be open again by then as the anvil has been part of our holiday since they first opened (long time )

  • Yes – very tough on the owners. Hopefully they were insured, and will receive compensation.

Am shocked that you were a fan of the place though Miles – hmmm – we definitely vastly disagree on that one.

But you are absolutely right, it is great news that nobody was hurt. Things could have been very different.

  • Very tough on the nice people who ran the restaurant, which was the best of its kind in PB in our view. However, well done to the firemen, reassuring to know how well drilled they obviously are, and of course the best news is that no-one got hurt.
