Climbing the volcano in Playa Blanca
One thing that people should always do in Playa Blanca in this great Island of Lanzarote, is to climb Montaña Roja (also known as Montana Roca)… the volcano in the centre of the resort. Don’t worry… it’s not too strenuous… and once at the top, you are rewarded with stunning 360 views. You can see across to the Papagayo beaches… Fuerteventura… and right around to the salt plains at Janubio. There is also a surprise waiting for you in the crater itself…. but we won’t give away the secret… as it makes it all the better when you get up there. We loved it… and it gives the kids (yes grown up kids too) something to do when you arrive at the top.
To get to it, you can see the route marked on the map below – zoom in for a closer look. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the crater edge from the parking area marked on the map… and then you can stroll all the way around the crater.
One word of warning… do not attempt this on a windy day – it gets quite hairy! make sure you wear suitable shoes… and take some water too. We’d love to see your photos from up at the top… and will add them to this post if you email them to us at info@lanzaroterelocation.co.uk
You may also find this mountain view useful too, courtesy of the lovely Paul Boden (or Vin Diesel as I like to call him) of 360 Turismo in Lanzarote.
Right – here’s the map and route
