Mood Talent Castings

Unless you’ve been living under a rock all these years, then no doubt you will have heard of such shows as “Britain’s Got Talent”. People the world over love talent shows – which is why there have been so many over the years. Well now there is one in Lanzarote, as “Mood Talent” launches for the first time.

The first talent show on the Island where in just 60 seconds you can win €500!

So what do you do? To be honest, the only limits are your own imagination – as an artist you have 1 minute to shock the jury and the public. If you meet that goal, you win!

COMPETITION RULES:

  1. You can participate individually, in pairs, or in groups, but you must ALL be registered as residents of Lanzarote.
  2. There is no age limit. Children under 18 must provide proof of parental or guardian permission allowing the child to participate in this event.
  3. You can use any pyrotechnic element on stage and always under professional supervision and under the responsibility of the contestants themselves. (at no time will the organization cover the materials used or subsidize you.)
  4. The performance of the contestants should be implemented within the measures and infrastructures of the event, being no more than 60 seconds.(Except in the third stage of the competition).
  5. The organization reserves the right to make changes they think appropriate in the the organization of the event.
  6. By entering the competition the participant accepts all the conditions.

Excited? Want to join in? Then drop an email to the organisers HERE – detailing the type of participation (individual, couple or group), and more or less what your “show” will entail. Go for it – and get your name in lights!

The castings are on the 13th August 2010 from 6:30 until 9:30 (pm)

This has been organised by the “More Than Art” organisation

Flashmob in Lanzarote – July 2010

What is a Flashmob? It is literally where a group of likeminded people all get together, in a public place, for no reason other than to entertain the masses, then disappear. You may have seen things such as this on television – and it really has that WOW factor!

The theme for this one will be dance – choreographed dancing of a crowd. Go and register at the  (Fashion School) in Arrecife. The last test is being run this Saturday at the Fashion School – so phone (in Spanish) 5pm intil 6:30pm.

The rehearsal is on Playa del Reducto on July 18th from 6pm, in the circus tent.

The actual Flashmob event – for all your photographers is Friday 23rd at 6pm, and Saturday 24th at 11am. The exact venue is yet to be determined.

Please contact 928 81 73 77 between 6pm and 8pm for further information. Please speak Spanish, or get someone to translate for you

Kampai Restaurant. Playa Blanca

Kampai Restaurant, Princesa Yaiza, PLaya Blanca, LanzaroteSome of you will know that we say the best meal we’ve ever had in Lanzarote is at the Kampai Japanese restaurant in the Princesa Yaiza Hotel in Playa Blanca. Well… we currently have a friend over at the weekend who was with us the last time we ate there. He wanted to go again so we did!

Absolute perfection once again!!

We like to mix and match so that our group gets to taste a bit of everything – so we all ordered different dishes off the menu.

Starters:
Me: Mixed sushi,
Mike: Prawn dumplings
Alan: King prawns in a light batter.
Everything was full of flavour… juicy and succulent. The King Prawns were huge!!! The mixed sushi came with pink pickled ginger too – fantastic flavours!!

Main Courses:
Me: Duck Liver
Mike: Steak
Alan: Scallops
The steak was tender and full of flavour… the scallops were moist and extremely juicy… but the star of the show was most definitely the duck liver! OH MY GOD!!!! They literally dissolved on the tongue – and there was a good quantity too, so we weren’t left wanting.

We had fried rice and noodles as side dishes. Again, these were excellent.

Our chef was the height of entertainment… with plenty of utensil juggling… and food being thrown about too – supposedly into our waiting mouths – but only one person around the station managed to get one (an Irish chap who was there with his family).

The restaurant was exptremely busy last night – with every seat taken. As we left, the seats were already filling again. However, the service did not suffer for it for one second. The staff and chefs know their limits on client numbers – and stick to it.

I know I keep using strong descriptive phrases with regards to this place – but it really is something special! We didn’t have high expectations when we got there last night… as so often a meal isn’t quite as perfect when you go for a second time. We didn’t think it was possible… but the second visit was even better than the first one. Marks out of ten? 1000!!!!

After our meal we popped upstairs to the Piano bar and chatted to the barman for a while. He was a really nice Spanish lad who had moved to the island 20 years ago from Lyon. He chatted away and didn’t laugh at our poor Spanish (although we did all laugh when he said mine was good for a holidaymaker. His face was a picture when we said we lived here – ahem). A couple more drinks out on the terrace with great company and conversation, and our evening was complete.

A fantastic night with fantastic food, wine and company.

To view the menu – go to THIS LINK
It’s a PDF so will take a little time to load. The menu is the same – but the prices of the two set meals have gone up to €48 each instead of what is marked.

Everything else looks current to me.

I missed the bloody dolphins!

Last weekend I went over to Tenerife with our friend (and client) Paul Cook to sail his boat back from a one way charter. The first time I’ve been off the island for ages. The weather was great, the Atlantic was like a mill pond. But my propensity to sea sickness hit about 3 hours out with the inevitable consequences (not a pretty sight)! After that I slept like a baby for a good few hours… And thankfully shed the sea sickness overnight.

On waking we were way out in the open ocean – it has always been an ambition of mine to do that – to see what it feel like being on a small boat way out at sea with no land in sight. It’s an awe inspiring feeling being on a small boat  (47 foot seems much smaller out there than it does sat in a marina) essentially at the mercy of nature. The scale of it really doesn’t take all that long to sink in. I’ve always loved star gazing too – so was equally impressed by the night sky unfettered by light pollution as it is in our part of the island.

Then, next afternoon, more sleep, and this was the depressing thing for me – I slept through a school of dolphins shadowing the boat. Another one of those things on my list of things yet to see. Despite attempts to wake me – I was out for the count! Luckily Paul had his camera… So I at least got to to see the photographs. Albeit with the voice of Jim Bowens in my head saying “Here’s what you could have won”!

All in all though – despite the sea sickness – an experience not to be missed and another tick against my bucket list.

As I write this I’ve received an email from Paul asking me if I fancy another trip soon. Do I risk the sea sickness? Perhaps I should, and see if it comes back – maybe I should take the risk – and if it does, I should call an end to my sailing ‘career’… Hhhmmnnnn :)

Opinions on a postcard please addressed to the pale sickly looking guy in Playa Blanca.
