Merry Christmas

The day is finally upon us, and so we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. We hope that the weather in places colder than Lanzarote hasn’t sabotaged your plans in any way… and that you are spending the time with the people that you love the most.

Much love from us all.

Alan in the El Sol News

A new monthly newspaper was launched recently in Lanzarote, and Alan was invited to be featured in their first issue.

They were keen to hear all about the charity walk he is doing from North to South of Lanzarote in February of next year.

Alan is on a mission

Some of you may have already heard… but Alan is planning to walk the length of Lanzarote, from Orzola to Playa Blanca on 4th February 2011.

Alan is a solitary creature, and had been planning this solo walk pretty much since we arrived a few years back… although his motivation needed a little help, as there is always something else to do instead.

So… to help him on his way, and to help him do it… he decided that it would be a great idea to raise a little money for charity too. This gives him the extra push needed to make sure it happens.

For more information, and to find out how you can help… have a look at this post from his personal blog: 4th February 2011

He’s a braver person than I! I love to walk, as you will know if you follow this site… but 73 kilometres is a long way! I’ll be cheering him on from behind my PC… and providing updates, photos and videos from his journey so you can all see how he’s getting along.

Yesterday he hit the gym for the first time in quite a while, and you can find out how he got on here: First day at the gym…

Congratulations to the Ecobs!

News has just come in that our good friends Paul and Nina Ecob who are well known for their La Bocaina Restaurant in Playa Blanca have just welcomed their firstborn son into the world.

Aaron Ecob has arrived safe and well slightly ahead of schedule but all news points to Mum & Baby doing well. We’ll post a photo once we get one.

Congratulations to the new parents!

Edit: Here is a photo of the newest Playa Blanca resident… Aaron Joseph Ecob. Cute as a button!

Lanzarote Summer Music Festival – Oct 2010

Pete Starmer, the organiser of this year’s Summer Music Festival gave us a call today – and asked if we could remind you all of the big event on 1st October 2010 at Los Pocillos in Puerto del Carmen. Here is what he had to say: Continue reading

A cute kitten gets rehomed in Playa Blanca

Last week I received a telephone call from a lovely lady called Patsy. She was over in Playa Blanca on her holidays and needed some help. She and her family had ventured out one evening and had spotted a very distraught kitten on a nearby building site as they were leaving. Of course they realised that the mother may not be far away – so they left cute kitty where he was. Continue reading

Fire Guts Chinese Restaurant in Playa Blanca

Punta Limones Commercial Centre in Playa Blanca was a hive of activity today and teeming with firemen and onlookers, as the “Restaurante Chino” was completely gutted by fire. This was the Chinese restaurant on the ground floor, to the right of The Irish Anvil.

Thankfully nobody was hurt – and the fire crew cordoned off the area to ensure that it didn’t spread. Today’s hot winds could have easily spread the fire much further – but fortunately the wind direction ensured this didn’t happen.

Alan grabbed a couple of photos on his mobile to show the damage after the event.

Playa Flamingo – Update – July 2010

Well… the work is still going on at Playa Flamingo in Playa BLanca, and although I am no technical expert – it still looks way off to me! I took some photos on Sunday, so you can see for yourselves. Continue reading

A happy ending…!

I have been itching to write this post!

As many people reading this will have heard, we got involved with helping to find missing person, Vincent – a young Frenchman who had been living on the streets of Arrecife since January.

He was happily reunited with his sister Fanny last Thursday.

Not wanting to ‘tempt fate’ we’ve held the story back until now. I can’t tell you how happy we are to report that Vincent and his sister arrived home in France yesterday.

I met Fanny from the airport when she arrived on Thursday, and as if fated, walking from the car to the hotel we she had booked before going to find Vincent she spotted him sat outside a cafe. I found it very emotional watching them reunited. Vincent had clearly lost weight but otherwise in good health and good spirits, and very, very keen to get home.

A big thank you from us to all the people who offered time, support, money, translation and good will to help find Vincent…

“I love it when a plan comes together”! :D

For me – it was a great day knowing that we had helped. But… As ‘Murphy’s Law’ predicts there’s always a downside. I got a bloody ticket for speeding from the Guardia on the way home… :) C’est la vie…

Missing person – Vincent Bosq

Vincent BosqA few days ago Elle posted a piece on missing Frenchman Vincent Bosq. We spoke with Vincent’s sister earlier today – and Vincent is still missing.

It seems that Vincent was able to contact his sister via the Policia Local in Arrecife, so there is a little more information. She tells us that Vincent has had his identification papers stolen and has no money. The family tried to send him money via Western Union, but having no papers or passport he was unable to collect it.

The family think that Vincent has been living on the streets of Arrecife somewhere around the Police station or El Charco de San Gines. If anyone sees him can you please let us know on 663 603 345. Obviously after several months on the streets Vincent may look somewhat different.

Also, if you have shop premises, or friends in Arrecife can you please help by circulating this missing poster throughout the city. Perhaps if Vincent sees it he will then make contact with so we can help his family get the assistance to him he needs to get home safely. Obviously the family are very concerned and they are also worried that Vincent has an ongoing medical problem that might need some attention.
