General Lanzarote Information

Carnivals in Lanzarote 2011

Sorry! I’ve had this info for ages… and have been meaning to post it, but time ran away with me. So anyway, here are the dates for carnival in Lanzarote (or carnaval, as it is known here) for 2011. See you there!

Arrecife Carnival
25th February – 9th March. Events every day

Puerto del Carmen Carnival
Saturday 12th March

Playa Blanca Carnival
Saturday 19th March
The parade starts at around 5pm at the ferry port, although it is generally late… continues along the dual carriageway and ends at the church in the centre of town. There will be entertainment in the town square and parties everywhere until the sun rises the following morning!

Costa Teguise Carnival
Saturday 26th March.
The parade starts at Sands beach at about 6pm, heads along the avenida, and culminates at Pueblo Marinero where the party continues all night long.

Playa Blanca Weather – January 2011

papagayo january 2011We generally don’t do specific “weather in Lanzarote ” reports on this website because at the end of the day… such sites as the BBC, Wunderground, or my personal favourite AEMET do it better than we mere amateurs anyway. However, this week, we were given a photograph from a regular visitor to Lanzarote (Jane), that we just had to share! Thanks Jane xxxx

Jane and her husband Frank own a property in Playa Blanca, and try to get over as often as possible. They have been over this time for a couple of weeks from just after Christmas, and right through the New Year.

We always try to meet up with Jane & Frank while they are here, and this time was no exception – incorporating a “bit of a do” for our dearest friends one night… and a dinner out at El Horno de Aguela another. Always an absolute pleasure!

The weather in Playa Blanca has been absolutely fantastic throughout January, keeping the beaches full, and the smiles on everyone’s faces.

Anyway… I digress – the photograph to the right is of one of the Papagayo beaches just a few sunny days ago. Now why are you still in your cold country instead of enjoying those bright blue skies, clear waters, and golden sands eh?

Right – now where did I put that bikini?!

What’s happening at Lanzarote Relocation?

Following our recent poll, we are bringing you even more of what you wanted to see! The overriding popular requests have been taken care of, and now we have different types of articles every day. Here’s just a taster of what we have coming for the next few weeks.

Mondays – Holiday Makers Corner. Read about the experiences of people that holiday in Lanzarote… what they like… and what they don’t.

Tuesdays – Other People’s Experiences. Each week we feature a new rsident in Lanzarote, learning about where they moved from, how they settled in, how life here is for them, and what they do for money

Wednesdays – Lanzarote Recipes. A new Spanish or Canarian recipe every week!

Thursdays – General. This is our general Lanzarote information day. It could be a map… a review… a moan… or praise…. all general stuff

Fridays – Learn Spanish. A new phrase or two each and every week. Come on now… Hablamos Español.

Remember that we always value your feedback… so don’t be afraid to drop us an email via the contact page.

Alan is on a mission

Some of you may have already heard… but Alan is planning to walk the length of Lanzarote, from Orzola to Playa Blanca on 4th February 2011.

Alan is a solitary creature, and had been planning this solo walk pretty much since we arrived a few years back… although his motivation needed a little help, as there is always something else to do instead.

So… to help him on his way, and to help him do it… he decided that it would be a great idea to raise a little money for charity too. This gives him the extra push needed to make sure it happens.

For more information, and to find out how you can help… have a look at this post from his personal blog: 4th February 2011

He’s a braver person than I! I love to walk, as you will know if you follow this site… but 73 kilometres is a long way! I’ll be cheering him on from behind my PC… and providing updates, photos and videos from his journey so you can all see how he’s getting along.

Yesterday he hit the gym for the first time in quite a while, and you can find out how he got on here: First day at the gym…

Playa Flamingo Photos – Nov 2010

A large number of you have been emailing us, and asking about the status of Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca. As most of you know, the sea defences were all but destroyed in the storm of November 2005. In true Lanzarote style, it took them almost 5 years to get the beach back to its former glory – and so here are a couple of photographs so that you can see how it is now. Enjoy!

Arrecife Crematorium, Lanzarote

I sadly had reason to visit the crematorium in Lanzarote today – and lots of people were asking beforehand how to get there. So I’ve just popped some directions and a map to the Arrecife crematorium on here for you. We hope that you find them useful.

  • Coming from the Puerto del Carmen / Tías / Playa Blanca direction, head along the circunvalacion towards Arrecife.
  • Take the filter lane on the left that takes you towards Costa Teguise.
  • Turn right towards Arrecife, via the turning that would take you to Eurospar and Informatica.
  • As you get to the roundabout just before Eurospar, turn right into Calle Mosta
  • Just after the kiddies playground, turn right again into Calle Mina
  • Carry on up the road and turn left over the bridge into Carreterra al Cementerio
  • You will see the Crematorium further up there with plenty of parking on the left.

Here is a map to Arrecife Crematorium to make life a little simpler.

Missing Person – Anthony Paul Proud

We’ve been contacted by an officer from Northumbria Police who is looking for Anthony Paul Proud (age 45) – my guess is he’d be known as Tony.

The information passed onto us was that he moved to Lanzarote from Newcastle 10 years ago and was working as a barman between then and 2006 when he last went home for Christmas. His family have not heard from him since. The last thing known of him is that he reported his passport as lost in 2007 and has not been seen or heard of since. Unfortunately they do not have any information as to where he worked or which resort he was based in.

The officer told us that there was no particular reason they know of he wouldn’t have been in touch, and there is no urgency to his family needing to get hold of him. They are just concerned to know that he is okay.

If you have any information that can help please send it and we’ll pass it on to the officer who is working on the case. Or, if you are Tony reading this please either contact your family, or please let us know you are okay and we will pass that on – of course we will respect your privacy should you wish.

Please send any information you may have to info@lanzaroterelocation.co.uk. We will pass anything sent to the officer who contacted and will treat any information in the strictest of confidence. Should you wish to contact the officer directly please ask us for his contact details.
