A cute kitten gets rehomed in Playa Blanca
Last week I received a telephone call from a lovely lady called Patsy. She was over in Playa Blanca on her holidays and needed some help. She and her family had ventured out one evening and had spotted a very distraught kitten on a nearby building site as they were leaving. Of course they realised that the mother may not be far away – so they left cute kitty where he was.
However – quite a few hours later – after their night out, they returned home and saw that the upset kitty was still about, and still as distraught. They brought him back to their villa… but only because it had been so many hours since they had originally seen him.
They contacted SARA the following morning, but unfortunately they were full and couldn’t help – so they called us to see if we could offer any suggestions. Now we’re not cat people as many of you know – so there was no way we’d have foisted the little bundle of fluff, claws and teeth onto our two dogs. But… we did know a friendly vet. We’ve spoken about Yaira’s “Vets in Playa Blanca” on this site before. We knew that although Yaira does not offer a rehoming service for strays… that she may know someone who could help.
So off Patsy and her family trotted with “Dizzy” (named after Bob the Builder’s mate – as they found him on a building site) to see if Yaira could phone anyone or help in any way.
Yaira of course was extremely helpful, and her usual lovely self – and took Dizzy off their hands. She explained that he was only 3 weeks old – and that she would do everything she could to make sure he was okay.
Patsy emailed me this morning to see if there was any news – particularly as a young member of her family was distraught at leaving the little one behind.
We spoke to Yaira, who explained that Dizzy is now called Fernando and is living at her home temporarily until he can travel to a family in Las Palmas who are really looking forward to having him. He doesn’t sit still, even for a second, and is getting on famously with Yaira’s other cat and Golden Retriever.
It is always nice to have a happy ending – and to know that Fernando has landed with all four paws on the ground.
There are some photos at the bottom of this page – and we hope you enjoy them!
Yaira does not provide a rehoming service – so please do not start descending upon her with your waifs and strays. However, if you are looking for an excellent vet in Playa Blanca for your existing pets – then you can visit Yaira at her shop, called Bari. They open for Spanish trading hours… so no mid afternoon visits. It is located on the Post Office road, up in the direction of the port, on the left hand side as you head away from the Correos post office. We took our two boys there yesterday to get their claws clipped – and she was her normal excellent, efficient, friendly self. Both dogs done in less than five minutes (plus the puppy weighed – and he’s now 37.5 kg!!!) Our dogs love her!
Remember also that 9 Lives Lanzarote does a fantastic job in looking out for the many stray cats on the island. If you would like to donate any funds to help support their work, or perhaps support them in other ways – then you can contact Bernie via her website at www.9liveslanzarote.com
Enjoy the photos!

You’re very welcome Patsy – it’s nice to have a happy ending isn’t it?

Hiya Elle,
Thanks for telling the story of Fernando, we were all so excited to see the photos. Fernando was a feisty little kitten, with the loudest mew imaginable from such a tiny little thing. All the family would like to pass on many, many thanks to Yaira.
You are both so kind,
Regards
